Do all followers of Zen Buddhism have merit?
Date: 08-02-2022||
The amount of merit, i.e. the brightness in the Tathagata treasure, can only be seen and known by those who can see by their Buddha nature’s eyes.
Student question 1/3:
You said that only people with merit could learn Zen Buddhist teachings. So, If I haven’t created any merit yet, can I be considered to have little merit?
Teacher answer:
Currently, there are 2 types of people who practice Zen Buddhism:
* Type 1: Those who already have merit, so when they hear about the word “Zen Buddhism”, they come to learn it sincerely and diligently.
* Type 2: Those who are instigated by the forsaken spirits. When they hear about the word “Zen Buddhism”, they come to learn it with the intention to steal, destroy, criticize, and curse this Dharma method.
These two types of people go to two different places:
* Type 1 people come to learn and help others diligently, so they have enough merit to return to the Buddha Realm.
* Type 2 people come to learn it with the intention to steal, destroy, criticize, and curse Zen Buddhism, so they create super evil deeds and go to the Great Fire Pit.
Student question 2/3:
In a previous Q&A session, you said: Anyone who knows Zen Buddhism and learns it has merit. Is that correct? If someone has merit, is it from their previous life? Can that merit be added to the current life’s merit?
Teacher answer:
Merit in previous lives is stored in the Tathagata treasure of each person. In each life, merit can be added too. The merit in Tathagata treasure never disappears, but the deity has to blacken it to allow the person in this positive and negative electromagnetic material world to survive.
Your question is very accurate.
Previously, in a Q&A session, you said: Those who follow Zen Buddhism do not necessarily need a certificate of Entry level or the acknowledgement to know the Way to the Buddha world. They only need merit and know the formula to return to the Buddha world to attain liberation. But how can one know if they have enough merit? Can you tell me the signs to know if I have enough merit?
Teacher answer:
The amount of merit, i.e. the brightness in the Tathagata treasure, can only be seen and known by those who can see by their Buddha nature’s eyes.
As for returning to the Buddha world alone, it is possible, but one must know the way to get there, like traveling to a foreign country.
If you don't know the way and go alone, it is left to chance, and 99% of the time, you will follow the ten-type saints, becoming a Buddha in the ten-type saint world, called wandering Buddha.
